Officially launched in 2025 during Montreal Fashion Week, the Association of Independent Fashion Designers (ACMI) was founded on a simple observation: the lack of representation of independent designers in a competitive industry. The ACMI thus aims to give local brands a new boost.
There are eight passionate Montreal-based designers who have come together to amplify the voices of local talent and build a shared platform for recognition and solidarity: Eve Gravel, Marilyne Baril (Marigold), Mary-Jo Dorval (Trucs d'enfants), Mélissa Bolduc (Melow), Jennifer Glasgow, Naomie Caron (SELFISH Swimwear), Eve Lavoie and Mckenna Bisson (MAS Montréal), among others.
More than just a group, it is a true movement taking shape. The association is built on strong values: respect, transparency, collaboration, and a commitment to local manufacturing. Its mission is to support emerging designers, promote independent craftsmanship, and showcase ethical and sustainable Quebec fashion, while raising public awareness about the importance of supporting a responsible industry. ACMI is committed to dedicating its energy and doing everything in its power to develop, promote, and protect local Quebec fashion.
With this in mind, the organization will kick off Montreal Fashion Week by presenting, for the first time, a fashion show featuring some 15 local brands on September 23, 2026.
